INDIANAPOLIS — A new beverage claiming to be a non-alcoholic “euphoric seltzer” has been banned in Indiana according to state police.
The beverage New Brew attributes its mood-altering effects to kava and kratom. Kratom is banned in five states including Indiana. The company notes that the beverage can be addictive.
ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Matt Ames said, “The most important thing is, as a consumer, you need to know and understand anything that you put in your body. Number one, what are you taking and what are the effects of that is going to be on your body. We all know what’s going to happen when we drink water, however if you consume too much alcohol, or you are consuming this type of drink that’s going to make you become addicted to it, is that something that you want to be in your body on a regular basis,” said Sgt. Matt Ames, Public Information Officer of the Indiana State Police.
The controversial substance kratom has already been the source of one arrest this week, as ISP apprehended a Texas man in Marion transporting 500 grams, Saturday, Sept. 14.
