SOUTH WHITLEY — Stephanie Campbell has filed for election on the Whitko Community Schools’ Board of Trustees for District 1.
“I love my community and I love Whitko,” said Campbell of her decision to run. “This is a great opportunity for me to contribute and to be a voice for the Whitko community. I have a child in this school system and want nothing more than to see Whitko thrive.”
In addition to being a Whitko Schools’ parent, Campbell has 13 years of experience working in the Whitko Community Schools’ system. Campbell said, “During that time, I gained insight I would have never had as a parent or community member.”
During her time as a Whitko employee, Campbell filled many roles. She worked in the front office at Pierceton Elementary School before becoming the art assistant. She also served as the middle school cheerleading coach and spent several years as the Junior class sponsor for the high school. Currently, Campbell volunteers for the PTO at Pierceton Elementary School, helping to coordinate fundraisers and events to provide extra resources for the teachers and students.
In the community, Campbell has been involved with planning the Pierceton Days Festival and is currently involved with the Pierceton Christmas Committee. Cambell said, “It is so rewarding to volunteer and be a part of positive changes.”
When asked if she has specific goals for the school board, Campbell said, “I want to be transparent in that I do not have a personal agenda. I understand that I am one person and to promise things that I can’t make happen by myself would be unfair. I believe school board members should be responsive and receptive to those with concerns including parents and teachers. I can guarantee that I will be that voice; everyone deserves to be heard. I will always listen even if we disagree, as I think it’s important to find common ground. If our priority for every decision made isn’t ‘how does this affect our students,’ we’re doing it wrong.”
The board has three seats up for election: Districts 1, 2 and 3. Voting will take place during the general election Tuesday, Nov. 5.
