Robert E. Pennington — UPDATED
Robert E. Pennington, 84, of Bourbon, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at Signature Healthcare of Bremen.
Robert was born on July 9, 1940, in Chicago, to Fred and Ruth (Weeks) Pennington and graduated high school in Henderson, Nev., with the class of 1959. After his mother’s passing, his stepmother, Bernice Pennington, raised him. On Nov. 25, 1976, he married Harryetta Foreman, and they shared 47 years together.
Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1962 aboard the USS Nicholas “Nick” (DD-449), a destroyer in the Pacific Reserve Fleet.
He worked at United Technologies, now Lear Technologies, in Bourbon, and State Stove in Henderson. Robert was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed building cardboard boats, airplanes and birdhouses and painting them. He would take his boats to Michigan City to race them, as he was incredibly talented with cardboard. Robert also enjoyed camping in Utah and Nevada.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Harryetta; niece, Lisa Embly; nephew, David Stephen; grandson, Sean Pennington; great-grandson, Sabastian Pennington; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; stepmother; sister, Janice Carter; and son, Russell Pennington.
A service and burial will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
