Elkhart Man Arrested For Identity Deception, Counterfeiting
Staff Report

Bobby Lewis Peck
SILVER LAKE — An Elkhart man was arrested in Silver Lake after using other people’s identities and possessing counterfeit money.
Bobby Lewis Peck, 60, 625 1/2 Garfield Ave., Elkhart, is charged with identity deception and counterfeiting, both level 6 felonies; and possessing a false government identification and driving while suspended prior, both class A misdemeanors.
On Aug. 21, a Silver Lake Police officer pulled a vehicle over since its registered owner, identified as Peck, had a suspended driving status. The vehicle was being driven by Peck at the time.
According to court documents, Peck told the officer he did not have insurance or a license. The officer called for a tow truck to pick the vehicle up due to Peck’s driving status. While searching the vehicle, the officer found multiple checks with the names of different individuals, and torn US currency with missing security features.
In total, officers found nine checks belonging to three different individuals. One of the checks was electronically used at a Walmart in Marion for $285.43. Surveillance footage from the store showed Peck purchasing several items with the check.
One of the checks officers found matched an identification of an interim operator’s license with Peck’s photo. Upon further investigation, officers found there were two interim licenses with Peck’s false identity that belonged to someone else.
One of the officers spoke with an individual whose checks were used by Peck. The individual said his wallet was stolen from his vehicle in Mishawaka.
Peck has a prior judgment against him for driving while suspended.
Peck has already been arrested and released on bond.
