Robert Ronald Gates, 92, of Austin, Texas passed on Aug. 16, 2024 at his residence.

Bob was born on June 15, 1932 in Rantoul, Illinois to the late Robert William and Harriet Vivian (Baylor) Gates. He was a graduate of Akron High School in 1952. He married in Oct. of 1954 to Jean Bowers, she survives.

He is survived by his wife Jean Gates of Austin, Texas; son Robert Gates Jr. of Houston, Texas; a grandson and two great-grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, in the Athens Cemetery. In addition, graveside military rites will be performed to honor his service in the U.S. Air Force.

The arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 West Rochester St., Akron.
