WARSAW — A Warsaw man was flown from the scene of a two-vehicle accident on SR 25 Friday afternoon.
At 3:33 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, emergency personnel responded to a motorcycle versus car accident on South SR 25, at the intersection of South Ferguson Road, Warsaw.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office accident report, a silver 2020 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Hailey B. Grossman, 19, Akron, was traveling south on South SR 25. Grossman told officers she was preparing to turn east onto South Ferguson Road and yielded to an oncoming motorcycle traveling north at a high rate of speed.
Grossman said she did not see any additional approaching vehicles and proceeded to turn when a northbound motorcycle hit her vehicle. The motorcycle was a black 2024 Honda CBR500R driven by Gavyn C. Alexander, 20, Warsaw.
One witness traveling behind Grossman’s vehicle said they saw two motorcycles traveling north and that one of the motorcycles passed through the intersection prior to Grossman turning.
A second witness said he was traveling north on South SR 25 when he was passed by two motorcycles. He said both motorcycles passed multiple vehicles prior to reaching the SR 25 and South Ferguson Road intersection. The motorcycle driven by Alexander was completing his pass and was merging back into the northbound lane in a curve just prior to hitting Grossman’s vehicle.
A third witness said Grossman would have been unable to see Alexander prior to turning and was unable to avoid the collision due to how fast Alexander was traveling.
A fourth witness said she was traveling north on South SR 25 when a motorcycle passed her vehicle at a high rate of speed. Shortly after, another motorcycle began to pass and overtake her vehicle in a curve prior to the SR 25 and South Ferguson Road intersection.
Alexander was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for serious injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but was ejected from his vehicle. Grossman sustained abrasions to her right leg and a small cut on her right wrist.
Damages are estimated up to $50,000.
