Kosciusko County

Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:

• 3:12 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, West US 30, at the intersection of North CR 800W, Atwood. Drivers: Brandon Roque, 28, Pansy Court, Bourbon; and Kristen A. Mikel, 39, Todd Street, Topeka. Roque was traveling north from the stop sign on North CR 800W and was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of West US 30 when he was hit by Mikel’s vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
• 6:38 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, North SR 19, at the intersection of West Welch Road, Etna Green. Driver: Dean M. Bartley, 49, South CR 1000W, Mentone. Bartley’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $5,000.
• 8:13 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, East Lake Shore Drive South, at the intersection of South Monroe Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Debra S. Winchester, 58, South Lake Shore Drive West, Warsaw. Winchester’s vehicle left the roadway, entering a ditch. Damage up to $2,500.
• 5:33 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, East Armstrong Road, at the intersection of North CR 450E, Leesburg. Drivers: Larry Kovar, 71, EMS B7 Lane, Leesburg; and Daniel R. Clevenger, 51, East Kiser Lake Road, North Webster. Kovar was stopped at the East Armstrong Road and North CR 450E intersection. While entering the intersection, he saw Clevenger’s vehicle traveling west on East Armstrong Road. Kovar attempted to reverse his vehicle but was unable to remove his vehicle from the roadway prior to being hit by Clevenger’s vehicle. A passenger in Kovar’s vehicle, Bernice Kovar, 69, Leesburg, complained of right foot and ankle pain. She was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital. Damage up to $50,000.
• 7:01 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, East CR 200N, near North CR 525E, Warsaw. Driver: Charles J. Allen, 54, South SR 15, Silver Lake. Allen’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage up to $2,500.
• 4:02 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, West CR 100N, at the intersection of North CR 650W, Atwood. Drivers: Corey R. Birk, 18, CR 29 Lot 1, Syracuse; and Jade D. Buchanan, 49, Angell Street, Plymouth. Birk said he was approaching the West CR 100N and North CR 650W intersection when he said his vehicle’s brakes felt soft. His vehicle went through a stop sign, hitting Buchanan’s vehicle. The collision caused Buchanan’s vehicle to leave the roadway and roll onto its driver’s side. Damage up to $25,000.
• 3:33 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, South SR 25, at the intersection of South Ferguson Road, Warsaw. Drivers: Gavyn C. Alexander, 20, Briar Ridge Circle, Warsaw; and Hailey B. Grossman, 19, East SR 14, Akron. Grossman was traveling south on South SR 25 and was preparing to turn east onto South Ferguson Road. She said she yielded to an oncoming motorcycle and then proceeded to make her turn when a motorcycle driven by Alexander hit her vehicle. One witness said Grossman would have been unable to see Alexander’s vehicle prior to turning and was unable to avoid the collision. Alexander was flown to Lutheran Hospital for Fort Wayne for serious injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Grossman sustained abrasions to her right leg and right wrist. Damage up to $50,000.
• 3:29 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 12103 N. Ashe Court, Milford. Drivers: James R. Hite, 78, North Hoss Hill Road, North Webster; and Remington W. Swanson, 24, Marjorie Street, Winona Lake. Hite was making a right turn to turn around when he hit Swanson’s vehicle. Damage under $1,000.
