David M. Cook
David M. Cook, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw.
David was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Warsaw, to Forrest and Jacquelyn (McCallister) Cook. He graduated from Leesburg High School with the class of 1961.
He served in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1965 during the Vietnam War.
On Oct. 19, 1973, David married Charlene Smith in Warsaw. The couple enjoyed traveling. When his wife got older, he devoted all of his time to taking care of her.
He worked as a cylinder maker at R.R. Donnelley for 39½ years until his retirement in 2005. David was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and was an exalted ruler for the Elks Lodge 802.
David loved being his with family and treasured time with his grandson and great-granddaughters. He enjoyed watching nature and knew many bird and plant species and liked sharing his knowledge with his great-grandchildren. David found golf to be his passion. He played golf daily at Rozella Ford Golf Course locally, had his favorite courses in Florida and when traveling always found a new golf course to play on.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Cook Jagger, of Warsaw; his brother, Christopher “Bro” (Tina) Cook, of Palestine Lake; grandson, Christopher (Morgan) Jagger, of North Manchester; and his five great-granddaughters, Jaelee, Jaeda, Jessa, Jovi and Jett.
David was preceded in death by his wife in 2017, and by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors.
