LEESBURG — Residents of Lake Tippecanoe are planning a ‘Patriot Boat Rally’ for 1 p.m. Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.
Randie Kopkey, one of the residents promoting the event, said that the goal of the rally is to have fun on the lake with like-minded community members.
He said, “It’s a patriotic thing. People decorate their boats with flags, play music, put-put around the lake. It’s mostly people feeling good about living in the U.S.A.”
The plan is to meet at Lake Oswego by 1 p.m. and cruise around Big Tippy. The lead boat will be wrapped in American flags. Boaters are encouraged to bring American flags, patriotic music and friends.
Kopkey shared that Lake Tippecanoe boaters did a similar event in 2020: “It’s just fun. When it was over, when we got back to shore, it was like, ‘God, that was cool.'”
This is an informal boating cruise with no party affiliation.
