Staff Report

Mark D. Shafer
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for operating a vehicle even though his driving privileges are suspended for life.
Mark D. Shafer, 64, 1819 Michaels St., Warsaw, is charged with operating a vehicle after forfeiture of license for life, a level 5 felony.
On Aug. 2, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a three-vehicle accident near SR 15 and CR 200S, Warsaw. The deputy learned Shafer was driving a vehicle with an attached trailer west on CR 200S.
According to court documents, the trailer was hit by a southbound vehicle on SR 15, and the trailer then hit a third vehicle. While obtaining license information for each of the involved drivers, the deputy learned Shafer had a driving status of habitual traffic violator for life.
Shafer admitted to not having a valid license.
Shafer’s driving privileges are suspended for life, having been convicted of operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator in Kosciusko County in August 1999.
Shafer has already been arrested and released on bond. He has an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, in Kosciusko Superior Court Three.
