Denny Durst
Densel D. Durst, fondly known as “Denny,” passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio, at the age of 79. He was born July 18, 1944, in Primghar, Iowa, to his loving parents, Densel L. and Ruth (Proehl) Durst.
After graduating high school, Denny was united in marriage to his true love, Teresa Hein, on Dec. 12, 1964. In 1977, they moved from LeMars, Iowa, and raised their three children in their Hoffman Lake home for 46 years. In 2022, they moved to Ossian, where they currently reside. Denny led a remarkable career working at Pfizer Genetics early in his career and then as the district sales manager for Pioneer Hi Bred from 1981 to 2009, where his dedication and success left a lasting impact. His work ethic and commitment were truly admirable.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Denny was a man of many passions and interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing at Rozella Ford and bowling at Gilliam. He loved spending time at his summer home on Lake Erie, bringing him great joy spending time with family, friends and fishing for perch and walleye. Denny cherished the winters in Florida, embracing the warmth, sunshine and time spent with his friends. He was also an avid sports fan and music lover. His faith was also of utmost importance to him; he attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Atwood and, later, Ossian United Methodist Church.
Described as an honest, funny, great friend and family man by those who knew him best, Denny’s presence illuminated the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Durst; his children, Angela (John) Barrett, of Dublin, Ohio, Jeff (Lisa) Durst, of Franklin, and Amy (Brent) Hoag, of Bluffton; grandchildren, Megan (Nick) Corbett, Kacey Barrett, Maddie Durst, Noah Dilley and Braden Hoag; siblings, David Durst, Deborah (Clayton) Durst Pavelko and Doug (Vikki) Durst; and sister-in-law, Mary Durst.
