Christopher Allen “Chris” Bales, 38, of Syracuse, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at his residence. He was born at Goshen Hospital in Goshen. Chris was a beloved father to Scout Avery Bales and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the Wawasee community. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sharon Levernier Bales and Darrell Bales.
Chris had a magnetic personality and was known for his sense of humor, which brought joy to those around him. He was a devoted father to his daughter, creating magical memories together. Chris was cherished by his aunt, uncle, cousins and countless friends. He was also an accomplished writer and a fan of “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), with Norm MacDonald being one of his favorite cast members. Weezer was his favorite musical group, and he enjoyed spending time on the Lillypad II at Lake Wawasee, as well as exploring Chicago by train.
In his career, Chris worked as a hospitality manager, guest liaison, first mate on the S.S. Lillypad II and front of the house manager at the Frog Tavern. He was passionate about his work and made a positive impact on those he encountered.
Chris was a 2004 graduate of Wawasee High School and furthered his education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in film and video from Columbia College, Chicago. He had a love for kayaking, paddle boarding, photography, videography and writing in his free time.
A viewing will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 15, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m., with pastor Dave Winters officiating.
Contributions in Chris’ memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or New Hope Pet Rescue in Syracuse.
The services will be arranged by Eastlund Funeral Home in Syracuse.
The community has lost a remarkable individual, and Chris will be remembered for his kind spirit and lasting impact on those around him.
