Staff Report
CHURUBUSCO — A Churubusco man was recently arrested for allegedly battering a child.
Austin Wayne Lowe, 32, 318 Greenwood Drive, Churubusco, is charged with domestic battery on a person less than 14 years old, a level 6 felony.
On April 14, the Churubusco Police Department received a report about a child having bruises after being hit by Lowe on April 12.
In an interview on April 14, Lowe said he was trying to clean around the house when he found food underneath a couch. According to court documents, Lowe said the child had a problem with hiding food and that he spanked and beat the child with a thin piece of wood.
Lowe told officers he didn’t mean to leave marks on the child and that he was attempting to spank the child, but that he hit the child’s legs because they were squirming.
Lowe said he hit the child three or four times and acknowledged what he did was not okay.
The child said Lowe hit their back and legs with a stick.
Lowe was booked in the Whitley County Jail on May 21.
