Charles R. Wheeler

Charles R. Wheeler, 94, of Warsaw and previously Florida, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Millers Merry Manor.

Charles was born January 27, 1930 in Stephenville, Texas, the son of L.H. (Red) and Eleanor “Nell” (Roberts) Wheeler. He was united in marriage to Lynn Longbrake Aug. 12, 1961 in Warsaw at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was a graduate of Arlington Heights in Fort Worth, Texas, and went on to receive his bachelor’s in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University.

Charles served in the U.S. Air Force and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force Armament Center in the research and development command. He served during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged .

He was an executive V.P. for Da-Lite Screen Co. retiring in 2004 after 35 years, he also worked at Dalton Foundry from 1962-1969.

Charles enjoyed weekly chicken foot dominos with his buddies, traveling, especially the annual trip to Mazatlán, Mexico, and watching all Aggie sports. He cherished being able to watch his great-grand daughter, Nora Lynn, grow up.

He was very involved in the community being a part of American Cancer Society, Noon Kiwanis Club, United Fund, Chamber of Commerce, the Republican Club, KCH Founders, Center Lake Conservation Association, Warsaw Library Board, Grace College Board, Miss Kosciusko Pageant, KCH Board, Junior Achievement, American Legion Post 49, Elks, N.E. Indiana and Texas A&M Club, and was Warsaw Man of the Year in 1978.

Charles will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Cindy (Todd) Thompson, Fort Wayne; son, Chris (Mike Kreitzer) Wheeler, Aventura, Fla., grandchildren Mick (Bailey) Thompson, Morehead City, N.C. and Molly ( Fiancé Austin Hanley) Thompson of Fort Wayne; and great-grand daughter, Nora Lynn Thompson, Morehead, N.C..

He was preceded in passing by his parents; his loving wife, Lynn; and sister, Mary Nell Wright.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Homes is handling arrangements. A visitation with family and friends will be from 3-6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to immediately follow Thursday, May 23, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Ct., Warsaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
