Tarzan Prater — UPDATED

Tarzan Prater
Tarzan Prater, 60, peacefully passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Tarzan was born on March 5, 1964, in Prestonsburg, Ky., the son of Charlie and Alice (Collins) Prater.
Tarzan was as unique as his name or the way he pointed his finger at you as he would ask, “How do you like me now?” He was also very smart and witty and for every joke told, he’d have one to tell right back. Tarzan preferred to be outside, which is where he found his love of landscaping. No matter the terrain, or how Mother Nature challenged him, he was able to turn it into a masterpiece. Due to his great talent, he earned a career working several years at Hensley’s Nursery in Prestonsburg, Ky., and open gardens in Warsaw.
Throughout Tarzan’s journey, he made many special friends, some of whom have passed and others who were with him until the end. His best childhood friend, Randy Leckrone, and his faithful dog, Tiny, stayed close to his side.
Tarzan is survived by his son, Nathan Prater, of Wabash; his mother, Alice Prater, of Warsaw; sisters, Christine Blankenship, of Akron, Heather Blankenship, of Akron, and Kathy Mae Sparks, of Salyersville, Ky.; brothers, Sammy Prater, of Prestonsburg, Ky., Charlie Prater Jr., of Allen, Ky., and Kenneth Prater, of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Prater; and brothers, Roy and Steven Prater.
Burial for Tarzan took place in Prater Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, Warsaw, and Magoffin County Funeral Home, Salyersville, Ky., were entrusted with arrangements and care.
