Dear Editor:

I have been reading several letters and articles regarding the election (or re-election) of Tyler Huffer for Kosciusko Coroner. Tyler has done many things in our community, as well as accepted all the responsibility when he was elected through a caucus vote for Kosciusko County Coroner.

Like a normal election, the caucus vote was announced, and held with full public knowledge. There was no secret vote. What was withheld, was who cast the votes that were accumulated for all three candidates that were considered. Exactly as it is done in a public vote. We had a vacancy, and that vacancy was filled in the proper way, with the proper procedures in place. Procedures that have been put in place to ensure we do not have a vacancy in a position that must be filled. Procedures that have been in place for decades.

When a caucus vote is cast, it is by a legislative body who belongs to a particular party and is elected by voters. That’s us folks. We actually get to ELECT the very people we need in place so if there is a moment that arises when we need a caucus vote it is already assembled. And in 2022, we needed that very caucus in place to do their jobs. I’m very thankful they did their jobs as was expected. The vote concluded with Tyler Huffer being elected as Kosciusko County Coroner.

I believe that Tyler is the best candidate for this position. After all, his own peers, and the very people we voted to make our decisions also agree he is our best choice!
