Waugh Arrested For Allegedly Injuring Several Police Officers While Resisting Arrest
Staff Report

Collin Rex Waugh
LARWILL — A Larwill man was arrested after allegedly injuring several police officers while resisting arrest.
Collin Rex Waugh, 26, 7190 W. 600N, Larwill, is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a public safety officer, a level 5 felony; two counts of resisting law enforcement resulting in bodily injury, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery and resisting law enforcement, both class A misdemeanors.
On April 8, a Whitley County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a domestic disturbance at a Larwill residence. Waugh said he had a verbal argument with a relative but that the incident did not turn physical.
According to court documents, the relative said Waugh damaged property in the home and also punched him and hit him on the head with a hard ball. The deputy noticed a large lump on the back of the relative’s head. Two witnesses said they saw Waugh yell at the relative and pick up a hard ball, throwing it at the relative.
Waugh was also showing physical signs of intoxication and a portable breath test showed a result of 0.3 BrAC.
After being told what the relative said about the incident, Waugh said the relative punched him in the face first. However, the deputy could not see any marks on Waugh’s face. While being escorted to a patrol car in order to be taken to a local hospital for medical clearance, Waugh physically resisted and refused to walk as directed.
While at the hospital, Waugh allegedly refused to cooperate with medical staff and was verbally abusive toward the staff and to law enforcement. He disregarded officers’ commands and kicked a responding Indiana State Police trooper in the chest and groin. This also caused the trooper’s body camera to be knocked from his uniform.
Waugh also physically fought with officers on two separate occasions while going through the intake process at the Whitley County Jail. One of the incidents resulted in injuries to two Whitley County officers. One officer sustained a large bump above his right eye and another received a right wrist injury which required treatment at a local hospital.
Waugh was booked in the Whitley County Jail on April 8.
