WARSAW — National Library Week, celebrated annually in April, is a time to recognize the invaluable contributions of libraries across the United States.
The roots of National Library Week can be traced back to the mid-1950s when research started showing a decline in America’s interest in reading. In response, the American Library Association and the National Book Committee came together to encourage people to read more and support and use libraries. The first National Library Week was observed in 1958. Since then, National Library Week has evolved into a nationwide celebration highlighting the important role libraries play in fostering literacy, lifelong learning and community engagement.
Celebrate National Library Week with us at Warsaw Community Public Library. From shelves upon shelves of fiction and nonfiction books for all ages and interests to a wide range of digital resources and a variety of engaging events, there’s always something new and exciting to discover at the library.
We offer many great events for children, teens and adults. Some of our most popular are story times for toddlers and preschoolers and Library Lego, a come-and-go event for kids and families to get creative and have fun together.
If you’re interested in genealogy or need to find information on local history, the library can help. Our Indiana Room is dedicated to such research, with decades of local newspapers on microfilm, a large collection of local yearbooks and access to great online genealogy resources.
With the rising costs of streaming services, maybe you’re looking to make some cuts. If so, the library can be a great resource. Between our physical and digital collections, you have access to thousands of books, audiobooks, magazines, movies, shows, comics and more.
And then there’s the “Library of Things” — a special collection of items such as board games, yard games, small kitchen appliances and power tools. Whether you need a metal detector for a weekend adventure or a bubble machine for a birthday party, the library has you covered.
As we celebrate National Library Week, there’s no better time to discover the treasures that await at the library. Whether you’re a book lover, a family looking for free activities or someone seeking a quiet space to work or study, the library has something for everyone. Visit Warsaw Community Public Library and discover the endless possibilities that await you.
