Downtown Goshen Gears Up For Green Day In May

GOSHEN — The May First Fridays Green Day Celebration in downtown Goshen will present an array of outdoor events and green activities.
The event will take place from 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 3.
Those attending can choose their own outdoor adventure, get in on a free tree sapling giveaway, participate in outdoor activities, shop for outdoor and summertime gear, and learn about the environment and sustainability through an assortment of booths and programs.
Centered on the courthouse lawn, the Green Day Celebration features an awards show and live music. Performances will be by Goshen Elementary School choirs, Nayo Ulloa and Goshen’s Americana band, Shiny Shiny Black. Downtown Goshen bars and restaurants, along with an array of vendors and trucks, will be serving visitors a wide selection of food and drinks.
Among highlights of the event will be:
- First Fridays petting zoo.
- The Goshen Department of Environmental Resilience activities, including a tree and T-shirt giveaway, a career and information table and a backyard habitat learning session.
- HartWood Treecare’s tree climbing safety demonstration.
- Trees for Goshen tree raffle.
- AmeriCorps Goshen’s bike and valet and information booth.
- Wellfield Botanical Garden’s seed identification and tree habitat learning session session.
- Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College presenting live reptiles and amphibians for demonstration.
- Goshen Public Library highlighting books about trees and Arbor Day and presenting story readings.
Additional highlights include rock painting, tree climbing for kids, face painting, a magic show, art table with tree art activities and Kid Mayor program information booth.
The Green Day Celebration is presented in collaboration with the Goshen Shade Tree Board and the Goshen Department of Environmental Resilience.
