WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly battering and choking a woman.

Gerardo Gonzalez Ahuatl, 20, 3699 N. 175E Lot 85, Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery with a child under 16 years of age present and strangulation, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.

On Dec. 22, 2023, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic complaint in Warsaw. A woman said she was battered by Ahuatl.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies noticed the woman had scratch marks with dried blood on her face. The woman said she and Ahuatl had a verbal argument, which turned physical when Ahuatl pushed the woman away after she attempted to hug him.

According to court documents, Ahuatl then proceeded to slap a child’s arm, causing the child to cry. The woman said she hit Ahuatl after he did this, causing Ahuatl to become angrier, grab the woman’s hair and start scratching her. He then punched the woman in the arm multiple times and grabbed her around the neck, pushing her down on a bed and beginning to choke her.

Ahuatl stopped choking the woman when he noticed she was blacking out.

The woman’s injuries included scratch marks on her lips and both cheeks, and left arm and head pain.

Ahuatl said the woman was upset with him because he forgot to turn the heat on in the residence. He said the woman accused him of hitting the child in the home because he pushed the child back toward the middle of a bed to stop them from falling.

Ahuatl said the woman got angry and began smacking him, pulling his hair, and scratching him. During the altercation, he said he scratched the woman’s face in an attempt to get the woman to let go of him. He denied punching or choking the woman.

A relative of Ahuatl’s said Ahuatl called her about the altercation. She said Ahuatl told her the woman was hitting him and wouldn’t leave him alone.

Ahuatl was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on April 3, 2024, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond. A photo of Ahuatl was unavailable for publication.
