WARSAW — “A Taste of Agriculture in Kosciusko County: A Family Affair” is happening Tuesday, April 9.

The event will run from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds, 1400 E. Smith St., Warsaw.

“A Taste of Agriculture” is free to the public and is sponsored by the Kosciusko County Agriculture Awareness Committee, Extension Office, Farm Bureau, County Community Foundation, and is also supported by the Kosciusko County Community Fair.

The goal of the evening is to provide an interactive educational opportunity for both youth and adults to learn about agriculture in Kosciusko County.

Those attending will have the chance to visit a number of booths and taste samples of various products grown in Kosciusko County. Other booths may not have food but will have an activity to participate in or animals to visit. Everyone who comes out for “A Taste of Ag” will receive a gift for attending.

As the event marks its 23rd anniversary this year, some $1,500 in grocery gift certificates and more than $1,000 in other door prizes will be given away. This includes product or gift certificates for locally raised or produced products such as soy candles, beef, pork, dairy and duck. T-shirts will also be included in the celebration.

A “light” supper will be hosted by the agriculture community. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste ice cream, cheese, various pork products, duck, popcorn, beef, eggs, salsa and chips, and much more. Also on display will be more than 20 different booths representing agriculture in the county. Booths participating include beef, dairy, swine, ducks, chickens, crops, soil and water quality, farm machinery, 4-H, Master Gardeners, rabbits, FFA, horses, Farm Service Agency and Farm Bureau. Additionally, visitors can also get a head start on their gardens and much more.

Several activities during “A Taste of Ag” are designed for youngsters. There will be a children’s 4-H activity corner where kids can learn through interactive games about the projects and activities 4-H offers, including programs for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and robotics.

Wawasee FFA is also hosting a pedal pull for kids. Registration starts at 5 p.m. for children ages 5-10. Prizes will be awarded for the top finishers in each age division. The pedal pull will be held in the show arena at 5:30 p.m.

Families can again work together on a scavenger hunt to find answers to questions relating to agriculture. Children who participate will receive a prize.
