Nonstops To Detroit Returning To Fort Wayne Airport
News Release
FORT WAYNE — Officials at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority have announced that nonstop service to Detroit Metro Airport is returning to Fort Wayne International Airport beginning Friday, June 7. The route will operate once daily, seven days a week, with a schedule that provides easy access into Delta’s connecting system.
Nonstop service to Detroit Metro Airport on Delta is returning to Fort Wayne International Airport after leaving the market in October 2022 due to the airline pilot shortage. Airport Authority staff actively worked to restore Detroit service to the airport, working with community members and Delta Air Line staff. Efforts included a letter-writing campaign from the northeast Indiana business community sent directly to Delta’s Atlanta headquarters voicing the need for Detroit service at Fort Wayne to be restored.
Not only will the return of nonstop Detroit service reinstate another nonstop destination to Fort Wayne, it will also further open travel destinations worldwide to the Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana communities — as Detroit Metro Airport offers more than 140 nonstop destinations on four continents to passengers. Detroit Metro serves as one of Delta Air Lines’ major hubs and Delta’s main gateway to Asia.
“The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority is proud to bring nonstop service to Detroit on Delta Air Lines back to the northeast Indiana region,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of airports. “We know the importance of this nonstop route to our community and appreciate the time, effort and patience the community and business leaders have taken to assist us in restoring this service. We appreciate Delta’s continued partnership and look forward to seeing nonstop flights to Detroit flying from FWA once again.”
The return of Detroit service to the airport brings Delta’s nonstop routes at Fort Wayne International to three — including service to Atlanta and Minneapolis-St. Paul. This also brings Fort Wayne International’s nonstop destinations to a total of 13 on four airlines with nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare, Charlotte, Dallas Fort-Worth (American Airlines); Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis (Delta Air Lines); Chicago O’Hare (United Airlines); Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa, Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, Sarasota (Allegiant Air).
Nonstop service to Detroit returns June 7, with once daily service on the 76-seat CRJ-900. Flights are tentatively scheduled to operate at 6:55 a.m. for an FWA-DTW departure, and a 9:45 p.m. DTW-FWA arrival. Tickets can be booked directly through Delta Air Lines at delta.com or by calling (800) 221-1212.
