LARWILL — The Whitko Community Schools system has named its students of the month for March.
Justine Ocken
Whitko Senior High’s student of the month is Justine Ocken.
“Justine is very respectful, caring, hardworking and always willing to help anyone,” said nominating teacher John Strayer of the senior student.
Lily Irons
The student of the month for Whitko Junior High is Lily Irons.
“Lily is a great advocate for herself as well as others,” said Teresa Knepple, the teacher who nominated the seventh-grader. “She has good troubleshooting skills. If she does not understand the material given, she will seek out assistance or other ways to understand the problem.”
Micah Slabach
Whitko Career Academy’s student of the month is Micah Slabach.
Instructor Chad Dahms nominated the freshman student. “I have nominated Micah for student of the month,” he said, “because he is one of the best students in my morning class. When I hand out work or they are on a project, he gets it done and done on time. He will go out of his way to help others in the class when they are struggling or just need some help. He really enjoys doing CAD drawings on fusion 360 then they get to 3D print them out. He has become a leader in class and comes in every day to class with a great attitude.”
McKenna Hughes
McKenna Hughes is the student of the month at South Whitley Elementary School.
“McKenna has really begun to want to learn and is working hard to learn. She often has a smile on her face when she arrives. She does a great job getting along with others and being a classroom helper. I am very proud of her accomplishments this year,” Amanda Johnson said of her sixth-grade student.
Norine ‘Nora’ Miller
Pierceton Elementary School’s student of the month is Norine “Nora” Miller.
“Nora is a student who excels academically and always strives to give her best effort on new challenges,” said nominating teacher Lexi Rose of the fourth-grader. “She starts and ends the day with a smile on her face and is sure to bring joy to her friends’ lives. Nora often offers to help teachers and peers. She is a student who is flexible and goes with the flow. I am grateful to have Nora in class.”
Sophia Collis
The student of the month at the Whitko Early Learning Center is Sophia Collis.
“Sophia is a joy to have in class. She is helpful to everyone and has come a long way. She is smart, kind and overall has an amazing heart,” said nominating Little Cats teacher Jessica Krom.
