Robert L. Vickery — UPDATED
Robert “Bob” Lee Vickery, Warsaw, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at the age of 80.
He was born on April 15, 1943, in Anderson, to Eloise (Smith) and Arthur Joseph Vickery. On Dec. 14, 2006, he married Ellen M. (Covert) Landis in Claypool. They were blessed to share the last 18 years together.
Bob grew up and attended school in Taylor, Mich. He moved to Warsaw 50 years ago from Anderson. He also lived in Florida for a few years. He was a hardworking man his entire life and was an electrician by trade. He worked at Kimball Glass in Warsaw for nine years as well as the Gatke Corp. in Warsaw. Bob was a natural handyman, fixing practically anything.
He loved to serve his Lord alongside his church family at Bethel Baptist Church in Pierceton, where he was known as the “Candy Man.” Bob was a longtime member of his church, where he also served as trustee. He also enjoyed the many friends he made as a former member of the American Legion Post No. 253 and VFW, both of North Webster. Most of all Bob dearly loved his family and was always available when he was needed. He loved to kiss and hug his grandchildren and enjoyed simply spending time with his family for birthdays, holidays, graduations, weddings and everything in between. He will forever be loved and remembered by those who loved him.
He leaves behind his wife, Ellen M. Vickery, Warsaw; three sons, Scot (Rhonda) Vickery, Anderson, Brian (Holly) Vickery, Warsaw, and Fred (Lindsay) Kreps, Pierceton; two stepsons, Timothy Fred (Paula) Benge, Nocoma, Texas, and Terrance Lee (Stacy) Benge, Flanagan, Ill.; and three daughters, Tammy Wholford, Mechanicsburg, Pa., Angela Vickery, Warsaw, and Teresa Purvis, Texas. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph (Nancy) Vickery, Fort Wayne, and Daniel Vickery, Muncie; and his sister, Nadine (William) Mowery, North Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur William “Butch” Vickery and James David Vickery; sister, Phyllis Mann; granddaughter, Shaun Cress; and his great-grandson, Chazz.
Bob’s life will be celebrated with a service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Luke Neer. Friends and family may visit two hours prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m.
