WARSAW — Teaching kids to cook can be a great way to introduce them to skills, lessons and interests that last a lifetime, and Parkview Health’s “Kids in the Kitchen” could be the first step for budding chefs in Kosciusko County.
The free, hands-on class will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Martin’s Super Market School of Cooking on the second floor of the store at 1150 Husky Trail, Warsaw.
During the class, children will:
- Get practical nutrition education using MyPlate, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s colorful nutrition guide to choosing a healthy balance of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy at each meal.
- Learn about kitchen safety.
- Learn how to read a recipe, follow an assigned recipe and create their own culinary masterpiece.
Katie Fulk, youth and family well-being community outreach dietitian at Parkview Health, will lead the class.
“Kids who know how to cook enjoy eating wholesome foods,” said Fulk. “The aim of Kids in the Kitchen is to give youngsters an engaging experience, help them feel comfortable in the kitchen and show them they can make delicious food.”
“Kids in the Kitchen” is for children ages 3 and older. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Aprons of various sizes and kid-friendly kitchen tools are provided.
Registration is required because space is limited. Call (260) 266-6500 or toll free at 844-835-0003 to register. Registration closes at noon the Tuesday prior to class.
“Kids in the Kitchen” will also be held in the Learning Kitchen at Union Street Market, 1622 Broadway in Fort Wayne, on March 29, June 27 and Aug. 22, and at the LC Nature Park, 9744 Aboite Road in Roanoke, on Sept. 12. For more information, email [email protected].
