Fareed Sultan Mohammed, a fifth-grader from Washington STEM Academy, emerged as the elementary school junior varsity state champion with a perfect score. His WCS peers also had impressive finishes:
- Josiah Burden (Lincoln), in the third grade and under division, placed 13th; and Asher Howe (Washington) secured 28th place.
- Aarav Jena and Ezra Burden (Washington) in the elementary junior varsity division finished 32nd and 34th.
- Maryam Anwar (Washington) clinched the third place trophy in the middle school junior varsity division.
- In the high school junior varsity division, Nate Anderson from Warsaw Community High School placed sixth, with Aiden Carr and McKale Hagg finishing 26th and 39th.
“It’s quite an accomplishment to qualify for state, let alone place in the top half of all players statewide,” said Jay Bolduc, chess coach. “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the chess players from Warsaw.”
