WARSAW — Parkview Kosciusko Hospital “is here to serve this community,” said Dr. Greg Johnson.
Johnson, who is Parkview Health’s regional market president, made the comments during the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for PKH’s expansion on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The hospital recently became a full-service hospital by adding on 88,000 square feet, including an oncology unit, inpatient section for up to 28 patients and two operating rooms and two procedure rooms.
“We’re here to serve patients. We’re here to serve our co-workers. We’re here to serve the community,” said Johnson. “This isn’t just about having a cancer institute or some hospital beds. This is Parkview Health being a partner in the community of Warsaw.”
“So thank you deeply from all the leaders at Parkview,” he added.
Parkview Health Market President Scott Gabriel also thanked the Warsaw community.
“I can’t say enough about this community,” he said. “You’ve welcomed us since the day we opened the emergency room and you’ve continued to welcome us and ask for more from us. So thank you so much.”
Parkview Chief Operating Officer for Packnett Family Cancer Institute Megan Smith explained how the institute’s satellite location at PKH would help patients locally.
“We’ll offer sub-specialized services and bring care closer to patients and closer to home,” she said. “I think something that is often forgotten is the amount of time that patients spend in the hospital in our infusion center when they’re undergoing treatment. So for patients to be able to stay close to home and not have to drive to Fort Wayne or an hour away, that’s more time they get with their family. That’s less time they have to take away from work, and it’s an opportunity to be able to provide that care in this community.”
Chamber President and CEO Rob Parker thanked Parkview “for this huge investment in our community.”
“I think the most valuable resource we all have is time and so when we can have care in our own backyard and we’re not traveling across US 30 with all the semis, when we can have it right here in our backyard, that means so much to our local families, and I just want to say thank you again on behalf of the community, on behalf of the Kosciusko Chamber board and all of our members, thank you so much for your investment in this community,” he said. “It shows more than anything else a faith in our community that we are growing and we are going to continue to grow because we’re doing the right things here in Kosciusko County.”
Gabriel noted before the ribbon was cut the expansion is allowing for eventually more than 300 jobs at the hospital.
