SYRACUSE — The Wawasee Kiwanis hosted a soup contest at the Syracuse Community Center tonight, Friday, Jan. 26. A $10 donation allowed guests the opportunity to sample nearly 20 soups.
The soups ranged from Hungarian mushroom to lobster bisque but there were also classic soup recipes, such as tomato basil and chili. Participants were able to vote on their favorite soups and categories included best restaurant, business, non-profit, individual and best soup overall.
The winner for best restaurant was Brew City’s tomato soup with 35 votes; best business was Re/Max’s Rita Davis’ potato soup with 55 votes; best non-profit was the Sheriff’s Department’s vegetable soup with 24 votes; best individual was Sullivan Moore’s chicken and gnocchi with 46 votes; and best soup overall was Rita Davis. The winners of the Best Apron Award, a Kiwanis tradition, were Sophie Hunter, Lily Douglas and Jaclyn.
All proceeds will be funneled back into the community through Wawasee Kiwanis programs. For more information about the Wawasee Kiwanis or to stay up-to-date with events, follow on Facebook or visit the website.
