Joy V. Gunter, 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital.
Joy was born on July 21, 1943, in Fulton County, to Irvin Joe and Mildred B. (Silveus) Leckrone. She graduated from Silver Lake High School with the Class of 1961.
She worked for R.R. Donnelley for more than 35 years as a proofreader.
Joy was a member of Burket United Methodist Church. She enjoyed antiquing and collectibles, once owning Joy’s Antiques in Claypool. Above all, she treasured time with her family and friends. She just adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Richard Kevin Gunter, Palestine, Virgil W. (Cathy) Gunter, Homosassa Springs, Fla., Robert L. (Dawn), Warsaw, and James E. (Patty), Claypool; grandchildren, Ariana (Nathan) Golemon, Justin (Meghan) Gunter, Katelyn (Micah) Bradley, Taylor Gunter, Sam Gunter, Anna and Ellie Bearss, Steven (Courtney) and Melissa (Andy) Manninen, and Kayla (Craig) Plouffe; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Marlene Weller, of Silver Lake, and Eilene Kimes, of Warsaw, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Keith Gunter; her former spouse, Richard Gunter; and brother, Lamoine Leckrone.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 29, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Larry Burkhart officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Claypool.
