WARSAW — You’ve heard of Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, but what about children’s day? You might be thinking something along the lines of, “Isn’t that every day?” But the reality is that parents are so busy and will rarely get the chance to sit down and enjoy their family. Monday, Jan. 22, is Celebration of Life Day. It’s about looking at your children’s life and reminding yourself of things you should be proud of.
With our busy lives, it’s hard to spend quality time together. This day is largely about spending time with your children and connecting with them no matter how far or grown-up they are. It’s also an opportunity to relax and reminisce about the simple joys that you don’t experience any longer as an adult.
Whether it was the excitement of getting a new toy or the freedom of not having to worry about mortgages and taxes, it’s a chance to reflect on those small things in life that we rarely experience now.
Think about activities you loved doing as a child and indulge in them on this day. Things like riding a bike, jumping rope or playing video games can help you reminisce about the past. Having fun allows you to absorb yourself in the present without continually worrying about the future.
Children grow up so quickly. They’re constantly learning and changing daily. Each day they delight us with their simple wisdom and observations. By spending time with children and demonstrating the care and love they deserve, we celebrate their life.
Some activities can be to read a book together, visit a museum, go swimming, make balloon animals, sing karaoke, put a puzzle together, share family history with your kids, give the dog a bath, host a cookie decorating contest, show the teens in your life to change a tire, or give them a driving lesson.
Finally, celebrate any way that makes you happy — whatever that means for you. It could be hiking up a mountain or sitting watching television with a delicious homemade pizza.
This day was created to remind us how precious and fragile life is, and that we should make the most of every moment. It’s a chance to reflect on our lives as well as those around us who may need extra support. Take this opportunity to appreciate what you have, give thanks for the blessings in your life and spread kindness throughout your community.
