SYRACUSE — Syracuse-Turkey Creek Township Public Library and North Webster-Community Public Library will celebrate teen artists during its annual Art Open House from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at North Webster’s library.
Both libraries invite the community to attend the open house, where submitted artwork will be displayed. Friends of the Library from both Syracuse and North Webster will provide treats for visitors to enjoy while listening to violinist Rebekah Sceniak play.
During the evening, volunteer judges, comprised of local artists, will view art submissions and award placings in each age group.
After the open house, art pieces will be on display at North Webster library from Jan. 27 through Feb. 10 and at the Syracuse library from Feb. 12-24. All participants can pick up their art starting Feb. 26 at the library they marked as their “home library” on the entry form.
Weekly Children’s Programs
Move and Groove Club meets at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the Syracuse library’s downstairs meeting room. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will complete different dance games during the half hour. Younger and older siblings are welcome to join the fun.
Older home-schooled children in grades fourth through sixth will learn about presidents, particularly George Washington, during homeschool class at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the downstairs meeting room. Younger home-schooled children can join the class but may require their adult’s help to complete projects.
Preschoolers can join story time at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the children’s department. Each week, children explore a new letter in the alphabet while also learning some Spanish and American Sign Language. Story time usually ends with a letter-themed craft.
Adult Book Club Meets
SPL’s adult book club will meet to discuss “Hidden Figures” by Margot Lee Shetterly on Thursday, Jan. 25. The in-person discussion will occur at 1 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room, while the Zoom discussion will follow at 6 p.m.
During the in-person meeting, book club members will be able to pick up February’s pick — “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. The novel is about J. P. Morgan’s personal librarian, Belle da Costa Greene, the Black American woman who was forced to hide her true identity and pass as white in order to leave a lasting legacy. Young Adult Writing Club
Teens with an interest in writing can join the Syracuse library’s young adult writing club, which aims to get the creative juices flowing. The group meets from 4-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, in the Rosalyn Jones Room and will play a writing-related game.
