Indiana State Police Investigating Shooting Involving Notre Dame Police Officer

SOUTH BEND — The Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a police officer with the Notre Dame Police Department.
Preliminary information indicates at 4:34 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, police officers responded to a burglary in progress near the 1300 block of Corby Boulevard in South Bend. A Notre Dame Police Officer spotted two men exiting a residence which was allegedly in the process of being burglarized. Upon making contact with the suspects, gunfire was exchanged between both parties. The two men purportedly fled on foot and eventually entered a black SUV, which was able to leave the area without being located by responding officers. The suspects were described to have been black men wearing black clothing and masks, and were estimated to be around 5’6″ to 6′ tall. Upon further investigation, there are no known injuries at this time.

At the conclusion of this investigation, all information will be turned over to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for review. There is no further information to be released currently.
