WARSAW — A North Webster man will serve a 4 1/2 year sentence locally on three criminal cases for possessing drugs and stealing items from a Warsaw store.
Brandon Todd Holden, 34, 7227 E. Blacks Court South, North Webster, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 5 felony; and possession of methamphetamine and theft, both level 6 felonies. Seven additional criminal charges were all dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Holden was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court on Thursday, Jan. 4.
For the Level 5 felony meth possession charge, Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed sentenced Holden to two years in the Kosciusko County Jail. Reed showed no objection to Holden serving the first year in the Kosciusko County work release program and the second year either in work release or community corrections.
Holden also received a one-year KCJ sentence for the Level 6 felony meth possession charge and 1 1/2 years in KCJ for theft. Both of these charges will be served on formal probation, with all three of Holden’s cases to be served back-to-back.
In total, Holden received a 4 1/2 year sentence, with two years executed and 2 1/2 years on probation.
Holden must also pay $1,789.77 in restitution to Rural King.
At sentencing, Prosecutor Brad Voelz emphasized the presence of a child at one of Holden’s drug arrests.
Defense Attorney John Barrett said Holden is currently seeking treatment at the Bowen Center and asked the court to consider Holden for work release.
Holden requested a delayed report date to KCJ to move items from a local storage unit to a family member’s home in Ohio. Voelz strongly objected to the request and Holden was remanded into custody.
On Jan. 1, 2023, a Warsaw Police officer went to Rural King regarding theft committed by one of the store’s employees. Beginning in December 2022, Holden stole multiple items from the store.
On March 15, 2023, Indiana State Police troopers found a black pen body containing meth on Holden’s person during a traffic stop.
On March 31, 2023, an ISP trooper was waiting for another police officer to meet him in North Webster to serve arrest warrants on Holden when he noticed Holden drive by him. Following a traffic stop, the trooper found a bag containing 0.7 grams of meth on Holden’s person.
