WARSAW — Many cases were dismissed ahead of the new year at Warsaw’s Code Hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
Code Enforcement Officer Dana Hewitt said, “We try to dismiss as many cases as we can in December to close out the year and have a fresh slate for the upcoming one.”
One case continued to Jan. 9 was the 317 N. Union St. property. This property saw a setback in the last month with an unexpected roof leak that caused damage to new drywall. The drywall will now have to be fixed and should be done by the end of Dec. 5. The roof has been patched, but this delayed the plumbing getting finished. All of the projects except for plumbing have been completed, including cleaning up the exterior, porch repairs, new soffit, new flooring and electric. Building Inspector Rob Hurford warned the owners hefty fines would be implemented if the project was not completed by the Jan. 9 code hearing.
Another continued case was the property at 3521 Lake City Highway, also known as the Economy Inn. Building Commissioner Ray Behling said there was good progress being made with painters currently in the building; however, there was still a significant list of tasks to be done before it could be considered for dismissal.
The last case continued to the Jan. 9 code hearing was the 1017 E. Fort Wayne St. property. Shafer Rentals owner Sherri Makinson said drywalling should be finished up by the end of Dec. 5. Following this, she said there are painters scheduled to come prime and paint the ceiling. Once this is completed, then her staff will be able to come in and place the doors and trim so the painters can continue.
Dismissed cases are as follows:
- 212 Wedrick Drive was dismissed due to its final inspection being completed.
- 1340 Gable Drive was dismissed due to the mortgage company having taken over and maintaining the property until it can be sold.
- 1508 Ranch Road was dismissed after Hewitt had a conversation with the owner and explained the expectations for his property and the owner agreed to comply.
- 225 N. Fort Wayne Ave. was dismissed after completing the siding needed to bring the house up to code.
