PIERCETON — A South Whitley man was flown from a two-vehicle accident after being rear-ended by a semi at the US 30 and SR 13 intersection in Pierceton.
At 10:03 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident at East US 30, east of South SR 13, Pierceton.
According to a KCSO accident report, a white 2020 Peterbilt 579 semi driven by Abdias E. Almonor, 27, Tallahassee, Fla., was traveling west on US 30 when he rear-ended a blue 2015 Dodge Dart. The Dart was driven by Brian L. Hunter, 47, South Whitley.
Almonor said the traffic light at the SR 13 and US 30 intersection changed and Hunter applied his vehicle’s brakes too quickly for Almonor to react.
All witnesses said the light was red for east and west traffic on US 30 and that Almonor made no attempt to stop or decrease speed upon approaching the intersection.
Hunter was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for back injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle.
Damages are estimated over $100,000.
