ELKHART — A jury trial for Wawasee High School’s former athletic director has been continued to May 2024.
Cory J. Schutz, 50, Syracuse, was arrested on Aug. 5 after he allegedly inappropriately touched himself on July 24, while in a restaurant’s drive-thru in Elkhart.
Schutz is charged with performance before a minor that is harmful to minors, a level 6 felony; and public indecency, a class A misdemeanor.
On Aug. 17, the case was scheduled for a jury trial on Nov. 20. However, due to court congestion, the trial is now set for 9 a.m. May 6, 2024.
From 2019 to 2021, multiple social media posts circulated involving girls and women coming forward with statements about Schutz allegedly inappropriately touching and interacting with them when they attended Wawasee High School.
In August 2020, Schutz was placed on paid leave while employed at the school, pending an investigation by the Indiana State Police based on allegations of inappropriate conduct with a minor. An online petition was started further alleging this conduct.
Schutz resigned from his position at Wawasee in June 2021.
