Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw teenager was recently arrested for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a credit card.
Kmani Dashaun Wheeler, 19, 1607 Maye St., Warsaw, is charged with burglary, a level 5 felony; residential entry, a level 6 felony; theft, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
On Aug. 17, a man spoke with a Warsaw Police officer about someone breaking into his home and stealing a container he used as a wallet. Inside the container were the man’s driver’s license and a credit card.
According to court documents, a surveillance camera inside the residence was broken by whoever stole the items.
The man also said cards in the container were used at a gas station in Warsaw for just over $50 in transactions.
On Aug. 18, a Warsaw detective contacted the gas station’s management to request surveillance video for when the cards were used. The footage helped identify the suspect as Wheeler.
That same day, an officer learned about additional attempts where Wheeler attempted to use the stolen credit card. A woman related to the victim said she helped Wheeler in the past by giving him rides to places. However, she said she stopped helping Wheeler when she found him inside their residence multiple times without permission.
In an interview on Aug. 23, Wheeler admitted to stealing the credit card and using it to purchase items. He also admitted to entering the home without permission.
Wheeler was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 27.
