Las Donas Club Distributes Funds
News Release
AKRON — The Akron Las Donas Club recently distributed funds to aid local community projects. The club, which was founded in 1957, hosts events throughout the year to raise money to assist local organizations and schools as well as the Hackworth-Sechrist Memorial scholarship.
Proceeds from the Akron 4th of July Firecracker 5K and Penny-a-Vote Cute Baby Contest allowed the club to disperse the following funds to help the community; $200 each to Akron Elementary School, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School, Tippecanoe Valley High School, Beaver Dam Preschool and United We Stand Food Pantry.
A $500 donation was given to the Henry Township Fire Department to go toward the fireworks fund.
The Las Donas Club meets the first Tuesday of each month and is open to membership to women in the Akron community interested in the development and social well being of Akron. The goal of the club is to actively engage and promote a social atmosphere while resonating the love of God in all that it does and stay within the community.
The club strives to embrace the community’s diversities and to seek opportunities that allow it to lead by example the values members have learned and help grow future generations of women.
