News release
SYRACUSE — Syracuse Public Library will hold a tech class at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the downstairs meeting room. This class will focus on using the Libby and Hoopla apps. Participants should bring their devices to learn the ins and outs of these two apps.
Registration is available at the library’s upstairs circulation desk or on its online calendar at http://rb.gy/6udmk. For information or to suggest future topics, email Emilia Layne at [email protected].
Young Adult Programming
The Purdue Extension Office will bring Sphero Robotics to the library from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. During the hour, teens will program the robots to complete several challenges. This program requires at least five teens to sign up, or it will be postponed. Sign up at the library’s upstairs circulation desk or on its online calendar.
Color & Chill offers a chance to unwind for teens and young adults. Come to the Rosalyn Jones Room from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, to color one of the library’s many coloring book pages while listening to relaxing music and snacking.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” fans should join the young adult board game night from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Rosalyn Jones Room. The group will play the “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Night of Frights” board game. Players will take on the roles of the iconic animatronics and compete to collect pizza and cake. For information, contact Amber Cox at [email protected].
Children’s Programming Break
Children’s programming will take a brief break during the week of Oct. 16. Join SPL the week of Oct. 23 for all your weekly favorites, including Move and Groove Club, story time and the home-school class.
Adult Clubs Meet
The Workshop will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the downstairs meeting room. Adults interested in writing — whether fiction or poetry — are invited to join the group. Bring a piece to share or listen to others share theirs. The group usually has discussions about writing topics as well.
In the Garden, a native plants gardening group, will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the library’s Community Roots outdoor space. During the meeting, group members will prep the memorial garden for Becky Brower, laying cardboard. The cardboard will be left over winter to smother unwanted plants and break down into mulch. In the spring, the group will plant native flowers and foliage; the group will release a list of plants during the winter for those wanting to donate some to the garden.
