News Release
WARSAW — In a morning filled with honor and reflection at the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club, President Chris Plack celebrated numerous community figures for their unwavering commitment and contributions. Mayor Joe Thallamer and Sheriff Jim Smith stood out among the distinguished honorees.
Mayor Joe Thallamer was presented with the John Elliott Memorial Buckeye Award, a tribute crafted in memory of the late John Elliott, a treasured longtime member of the Club. This accolade celebrates those who have profoundly impacted both the Club and the broader Warsaw community. With his steadfast 12-year service to Warsaw, Mayor Thallamer fittingly received this recognition.
Sheriff Jim Smith was bestowed the Pillar of Community Award, highlighting his embodiment of optimism and a commitment that continues to inspire the Warsaw community at large.
The morning also shed light on Chris Plack’s unique association with the Club. From his journey from Anchorage, Alaska, due to a relationship with Jamie Teel Plack, to his amusing reflection: “Some folks join our club in order to one day run for office. I ran for office so I could join this club,” his dedication has been evident. Under his leadership, a focus on making immediate and palpable differences in the lives of the county’s youth became paramount.
Further highlighting the Club’s spirit of recognition, Jeff Owens was celebrated as the Optimist of the Year for his unwavering dedication, while Randy Robinson received the Rookie of the Year award, marking a promising start to his Club journey.
Chris Plack shared, “This morning, as we spotlight the incredible contributions of our awardees, we also reflect on the spirit of Warsaw and the enduring legacy of optimism the Club has championed since 1958. With upcoming challenges, especially concerning our youth, our collective efforts and influence will be more important than ever.”
