Symphony Of The Lakes To Perform In Winona Lake Oct. 7
News Release
WINONA LAKE — The Wagon Wheel Symphony of the Lakes, under the direction of principal conductor Jason Luke Thompson, will present an orchestral program titled “Goin’ Home” with featured guests at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, in the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Ave., Winona Lake.
Guest musicians will include the No Name Quartet and Chloe Park, pianist, who was the winner of the orchestra’s Young Artist Competition in 2023.
The orchestra will open with Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, also known as “From the New World.” It is one of the Czech composer’s most famous and beloved compositions. Written in 1893 during his time in the United States, the symphony captures Dvořák’s impressions and reflections on American culture and landscapes. The symphony is in four movements: adagio – allegro molto, largo, scherzo: molto vivace, allegro con fuoco.
Chloe Park, who won first prize in last year’s Young Artist Competition competition, will play the allegro vivace third movement of Frederic Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, Op. 21.
The next Young Artist Competition will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, in the Performing Arts Center of Warsaw Community High School.
Special guests performing with the orchestra for the first time will be the local No Name Quartet. Comprised of Tim Yocum, Jeff Secaur, Bob Jackson and Mike Yoder, the group has been performing locally for some 20 years and began as a performing group in their home church in Winona Lake. Along with the orchestra, they will sing selections of gospel songs orchestrated by Wayne Haun and containing such titles as “Holy is Thy Name,” “He Loves,” “Packin’ Up” and more. Additional featured musicians will include Wally Brath, pianist, and Robert Lynn, cellist.
Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at the Wagon Wheel box office, online at wagonwheelcenter.org, or by calling (574) 267-8041.
