WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly stealing two motorcycles from the Fort Wayne area.
In the first case, Daven Paul Gasaway, 26, 5774 N. 2nd St., Warsaw, is charged with resisting law enforcement and theft, both level 6 felonies. He is also charged with theft, a level 6 felony, in a second case.
On July 22, a Warsaw Police officer was on patrol when he saw a motorcyclist disregard a traffic light and accelerate hard.
According to court documents, a vehicle pursuit then ensued, with the motorcycle traveling at speeds over 100 mph and passing vehicles on the shoulder of SR 15. The Warsaw officer lost sight of the motorcyclist south of Leesburg and terminated the pursuit.
Officers then received information about the motorcyclist being in Leesburg. A Pierceton Police officer began pursuing the driver south on SR 15. Multiple agencies converged in the area but were unable to find the driver.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered the motorcycle’s registered owner was not driving the vehicle during the pursuit. The owner reported his motorcycle as stolen to the Fort Wayne Police Department on July 24.
On Aug. 8, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office detective found the stolen motorcycle at a residence near Kuhn Lake. A woman said Gasaway dropped the motorcycle off at her home. After comparing photos of the motorcyclist involved in the pursuit to pictures of Gasaway, officers determined Gasaway was the individual involved in the July 22 pursuit.
On Aug. 8, Gasaway was arrested for stealing a UTV near North Webster. Gasaway was released from custody for this case on Aug. 17.
On Aug. 23, a Fort Wayne Police officer spoke with a man who said his black 2018 Kawasaki motorcycle was stolen.
The next day, on Aug. 24, a KCSO detective saw Gasaway driving a black Kawasaki motorcycle in Leesburg. Gasaway left the motorcycle at a local gas station. The motorcycle was determined to be the one stolen from Fort Wayne.
Gasaway also has two prior theft convictions.
Gasaway was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 27.
