WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly battering a woman while in the presence of three children.
Brian Mitchell Saunders, 33, 3965 N. 100E, Warsaw, is charged with criminal confinement, a level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present and strangulation, both level 6 felonies; and battery, a class B misdemeanor.
On Sept. 19, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a domestic complaint at a Warsaw residence. A woman said she had a physical altercation with Saunders while three children were present.
According to court documents, the woman said Saunders was intoxicated when he pinned her against a door and wrapped his hands around her neck. When the woman attempted to leave the residence, Saunders raised a bar stool between her and the door. She asked Saunders to back away several times but he refused to do so. The deputy noticed abrasions on the woman’s neck and face area. She also complained of pain her mouth area.
One of the children in the residence said they heard the woman yell at Saunders and also saw Saunders punch and choke the woman. When the child told Saunders to leave, Saunders shoved the child and placed his hand against the child’s throat. As the woman struggled to get Saunders away from the child, the woman shoved Saunders, who hit his head on something that caused a laceration to his head.
A second child at the home saw Saunders punch the woman and violently throw her to the ground.
Saunders told the deputy he was the victim and that the woman physically harms him all the time. He tested 0.24% BrAC on a portable breath test.
Saunders was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 20.
