Indiana Releases $100M For Park Lodge Project
News Release
NORTH LIBERTY — State officials have decided to move forward with new lodging plans at Potato Creek State Park. Last week, the Indiana State Budget Committee voted unanimously to release $100 million to construct new lodging facilities. The project had been proposed numerous times over the last few decades, but it never took off, until now.
The new lodging will feature 120 guest rooms, a 9,000 square-foot indoor aquatic facility, gift shop, activity rooms, lake observation deck, boardwalk, play ground, conference center, dock boat-slips, and 250 parking spaces.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials expect to break ground as soon as next month at the Whispering Winds Picnic Area.
The lodge is expected to fill a big hole for out-of-town visitors as the nearest hotel is located on Kern Road in South Bend, over ten miles away.
The cities of North Liberty and Lakeville have been collaborating with the Michiana Area Council of Governments to expand the trail systems between them and the park.
North Liberty would like to supply the park with broadband internet but no deal has been secured yet.
DNR officials expect the new lodge to cut ribbon in 2026 or 2027. Officials will share more information, including project renderings, at the Oct. 20 groundbreaking ceremony.
