WARSAW — Warsaw Community Public Library’s Children’s Services has gained three new team members this year. We’d love for you to meet them. Sarah Overstreet, Stephanie Goodwin and Sara Maseman have joined the department as part-time professional assistants. I posed some questions to them recently.
We’ll start with Stephanie Goodwin.
Amy Mann: What prompted you to apply for a part-time job in Children’s Services?
Stephanie Goodwin: This is honestly my dream job. I am passionate about literacy and helping families find good books. I have a background in education and familiarity with current children’s books, which helps me with reader’s advisory. Also, its part-time nature enables me to still be available for my school-age children and to support my husband in ministry.
(Stephanie’s husband, Marc, is lead pastor at Christ’s Covenant Church in Winona Lake, and they have three children.)
AM: What are some of your favorite children’s books?
SG: “Hooway for Wodney Wat” by Helen Lester is my all-time favorite. I’m also a big fan of the “Poppleton” series by Cynthia Rylant and the “Elephant and Piggie” series by Mo Willems. I love books that both young and old can enjoy and giggle about.
AM: If you love a series, what about it (besides humor, of course) makes you want to recommend it?
SG: The “Wingfeather Saga” series by Andrew Peterson is great to read aloud to your upper-elementary student, or for an independent read for your teen and tween. Similar to C.S. Lewis’ “Chronicles of Narnia,” there is an allegory that runs throughout that is deeply meaningful.
Come in and meet Stephanie if you haven’t already. She’d love to help you enjoy our library and its resources. Next month, we’ll feature Sarah Overstreet.
In September, you can bring your little ones ages 3-5 to Preschool Story Time at 10:15 a.m. to read and sing along with Mr. Duane. Activity stations will take place after story time. You may choose Mondays (Sept. 11, 18 and 25) or Fridays (Sept. 15, 22 and 29). Bring your babies and toddlers to Story Time with Miss Amy on Wednesdays (Sept. 13, 20 and 27) at 10:15 a.m.
The Warsaw Community Public Library is located at 310 E. Main St. in Warsaw. If you have any questions or need assistance, you can reach the library by phone at (574) 267-6011 or online at warsawlibrary.org.
