Virginia L. Smith — UPDATED
Virginia L. Smith, 88, formerly of Winona Lake, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023. She was a resident of Cardinal Care Strategies in Muncie.

Born in Piqua, Ohio, on Nov. 5, 1934, Virginia was the youngest daughter of Clemeth O. Lemmon Sr. and Nellie Mae Cecile Stump.
She married Robert Lee Smith Jr. of Fredrick, Md., on July 1, 1955, in Piqua, Ohio. They would cherish 56 years together before Robert’s passing on Sept. 21, 2011.
Virginia made Winona Lake her home for 40 years, raising her three daughters and being a devoted homemaker. She loved to travel, crochet, play the piano, read and play tennis.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy M. Leedy, of North Webster, and Susan K. Wentzel, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Robin L. Leffler; sister, Mary M. Lemmon; and brothers, Howard and Oscar Lemmon.
A special thanks to the staff, nurses, certified nursing assistants and aides of Cardinal Care Strategies and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care, love and support throughout this long illness.
Graveside services for Virigina will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 19, 2023, in Oakwood Cemetery, 421 N. Maple Ave., Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Jarboe officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, Warsaw.
