WARSAW — The City of Warsaw Redevelopment Commission entered into a one-time cleaning contract with Be Relieved LLC for the former Marsh property at its meeting Monday, Sept. 11.

At the recommendation of Community and Economic Development Director Jeremy Skinner, the cleaning agreement will be an hourly rate until the job is complete. Currently, there are thick layers of dust and residue on the shelves and a greasy floor to take care of to prevent any injuries in the building.

Also at Skinner’s suggestion, the commission agreed to have a formal inspection done of the Marsh property through Dilling Group and see what potential issues could be resolved. The same group has also entered an agreement where they will do weekly inspections of the property while it is empty in order to catch any damage before it becomes a serious and expensive issue.

“Preventative maintenance is always money well spent,” said Redevelopment Commission Member Mike Klondaris.

Klondaris also suggested it might be wise to have Warsaw Police Department patrol the building once a week.

Other business addressed for the former Marsh building included a purchase agreement with RAM Development to sell the former grocery store to the developers in order to market it better. This agreement will assure potential interested parties of how this building is acquirable.

City Redevelopment also entered a purchase agreement to acquire the 330 N. Buffalo St. property for $44,000, the remaining amount on the mortgage.

Redevelopment approved a resolution on the disposal of the Gatke property. Skinner said this resolution will allow advertisements for the building to be made to receive bids at the price of $270,000 to sell the property with the condition the purchasers also tear down and build at their own cost. It is expected nobody will and then the city will be able to move forward with the project and give the building away to the developers for free.
