Elkhart County Courthouse Construction Continues

GOSHEN — As construction on the Elkhart County Courthouse continues on, the Elkhart County Commissioners have made numerous purchases and plans for the interior of the building which should streamline proceedings from Goshen, Elkhart and most of Dunlap.
The commissioners have approved the consideration of a special purchase of a 700/800mhz radio system through ERS Wireless and an appropriation of $2.2 million for courthouse furnishings as an estimate of the cost.
Some of the requested proposals presented included Office Interiors, Granger; Business Furnishings LLC, South Bend; Sauder Courtroom Furniture, Ohio; Lakeshore, California; Business Furniture and Co., Indianapolis.
The commissioners also approved the approved the appropriation request of $1.5 million for the courtroom’s audio and visual needs through New Era Technology. They also approved a $2.9 million appropriation through the Major Moves Fund for road upgrades at Reliance Road. The road upgrades are to help accommodate the increase in traffic around the new courthouse. The cost is estimated, the total cost won’t be known until bids start rolling in.
The commissioners approved an appropriation of $100,000 from the Jail County Adjusted Gross Income Tax fund for various needs, including building, plumbing, HVAC and electrical repairs.
