WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested for allegedly battering a man while intoxicated.
Lantz Michael Garrett, 32, 704 W. Market St., Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery in the presence of a child, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to 0.15 or more, both class A misdemeanors.
On Aug. 13, Warsaw Police officers responded to a domestic complaint in which Garrett fought with a man and allegedly threatened to shoot two people. A neighbor said he thought he heard a gunshot and Garrett left the scene in a vehicle.
According to court documents, officers pulled Garrett over and conducted a “felony stop,” with Garrett being ordered to exit the vehicle at gunpoint.
Garrett told officers he had a verbal argument with the man. He told the man if he wanted to fight, they should take it outside because a child was asleep in the home. Garrett said the man punched him several times in the face. Officers noticed Garrett had a cut lip. Garrett also denied threatening to shoot anyone.
A woman said she saw Garrett physically attack the man.
Upon searching Garrett’s vehicle, officers found empty bottles of alcohol but did not find any firearms. Officers noticed Garrett exhibiting signs of intoxication. Garrett failed several field sobriety tests and a portable breath test resulted in a 0.17% BrAC.
Certified chemical test results for Garrett are pending.
At the time of this incident, Garrett was on pretrial release for domestic battery and interference in the reporting of a crime.
Garrett has already been arrested and released on bond.
