Home Saved, Pole Barn And More Destroyed Near Claypool

CLAYPOOL — A two-story home was saved, but a large pole barn, its contents and nearby items were destroyed in a fire Sunday afternoon, Sept. 3.
Claypool Fire Department was called at 5:20 p.m. for a fire at 1100W 700S, Claypool. Initial reports were it was a detached garage with LP tanks, welders and cars inside. Additional items, such as campers and moterhomes were also reported near the burning structure.
Full assists were requested from Sidney, Winona Lake and Claypool. Two drop tanks were used by the departments to supply water to the firefighters battling the blaze and protecting the home. Tankers were refilling at Claypool Elementary.
Black smoke from the fire could be seen from at least 12 miles in every direction.
Lutheran EMS also responded to the scene.
Firefighters remain at the scene as of 7:08 p.m.
